If you've ever sent visitors to the Visit Stellenbosch tourism office... take note.

From 17 August, Visit Stellenbosch will officially move its Visitor Information Centre to 141 Dorp Street, right in the heart of one of South Africa's most historic streets. The move isn't just about a new address. It's about creating an even better first impression for the thousands of people who visit our town every year.

Whether visitors are looking for the perfect wine farm, a hidden coffee shop, mountain biking trails, award-winning restaurants or local events, the new centre will be the place to start.

We love the symbolism too.

Every great town deserves a welcoming front door... and few streets say "Stellenbosch" quite like Dorp Street. Here's hoping it's the first stop for many unforgettable Winelands adventures. 🍷🏛️

For the second time in just over a month, a SAPS bakkie has ended up on its roof along the Stellenbosch Arterial.

The latest incident happened on Monday morning near the intersection with Symphony Way. Two officers sustained minor injuries and were taken to hospital, while police have opened a case of reckless and negligent driving. What makes it particularly unusual is that another SAPS vehicle overturned on the same stretch of road back in June.

At this point we're starting to wonder if Google Maps is giving police a new route option...

Jokes aside, we're glad the officers weren't seriously injured and hope everyone involved makes a full recovery.

Stellenbosch University has another reason to celebrate.

Professor Deresh Ramjugernath, the University's Rector and Vice-Chancellor, has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Education by the UK's Coventry University. The honour recognises his leadership in higher education, his research contributions, and his work building international partnerships between universities.

Former SU Rector Professor Wim de Villiers, who delivered the official oration at the ceremony, praised Professor Ramjugernath for bringing people and institutions together to create meaningful global collaboration.

It's always great to see Stellenbosch making headlines for the right reasons. Between world-class research, international recognition and producing graduates who make an impact around the globe, our little university town continues to punch well above its weight. 🌍🎓

If you've driven down Dorp Street over the past few years, you've probably glanced at the old Transvalia buildings and thought:

"Surely something is happening there...?"

Well... finally, it looks like it is.

The historic Transvalia complex at 127 Dorp Street, originally dating back to the late 1700s, is set for a new chapter after years of uncertainty. The heritage buildings have long been recognised as an important part of Stellenbosch's architectural history, and plans are finally moving ahead to breathe new life into the site.

We're not saying it's taken a while...

...but some first-year students walked past those boarded-up buildings on their first day at Stellenbosch University and have since graduated, started jobs, got married and are now dropping their own kids off at university.

For what feels like forever, the buildings have been sitting there looking tired and forgotten on one of the most beautiful streets in South Africa.

So here's hoping this is finally the beginning of something special. Dorp Street deserves better than a permanent "under construction... eventually" sign. 🍷🏛️
