TOGETHER WITH
✈️ Big Plans Taking Off For Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch University and Cape Winelands Airport have officially joined forces to help shape the future of the region.
The new partnership will focus on smart and sustainable innovation, bringing together university research and industry expertise in areas including aviation, transport, logistics, engineering, agriculture and urban planning.
The collaboration also supports the planned R8 billion expansion of Cape Winelands Airport, a project expected to create thousands of jobs while transforming the airport into a major economic hub for the Western Cape. Students and researchers will have opportunities to work on real-world projects, helping develop practical solutions with long-term benefits for the region.
Whether you're excited about the airport itself or not, it's encouraging to see local businesses and Stellenbosch University working together on projects that could have a lasting impact on innovation, skills development and economic growth across the Winelands.
🏔️ Court Clears The Way For Luxury Mountain Estate
A long-running legal battle over one of Stellenbosch's most controversial developments has reached a major milestone.
The Western Cape High Court has dismissed an application to stop the proposed Botmaskop Fynbos Estate, a luxury residential development on the scenic slopes above Helshoogte Pass. The court found that the environmental approvals for the project were lawful and rejected every argument brought by the group opposing the development.
The planned estate will consist of 77 luxury homes spread across a 35-hectare property overlooking Stellenbosch. Supporters believe it will bring investment and create jobs, while opponents have raised concerns about the environmental impact and the effect on one of the Winelands' most iconic landscapes.
Whether you see it as progress or a loss of open space, one thing is clear: Stellenbosch continues to grow, and the debate over how the town should balance development with preserving its natural beauty is unlikely to end anytime soon.
🦠 Your Carpet Might Be Dirtier Than Your Toilet Seat
Here's a slightly uncomfortable thought.
Studies have found that carpets can harbour far more bacteria than the average toilet seat.

It makes sense when you think about it.
We walk through parking lots, public bathrooms, muddy gardens and shops, then straight into our homes wearing the same shoes. Add pet paws, food spills, dust and everyday life, and your carpet quietly collects it all.
Yet it's also where babies learn to crawl, toddlers play for hours and pets love to nap.
A professional deep extraction clean doesn't just improve the appearance of your carpets. It removes dirt, dust and contaminants that regular vacuuming simply can't reach.
Sometimes the cleanest-looking carpet is the one that needs cleaning the most.

🚗 Stellenbosch's New Olympic Ski Jumps
Has anyone else noticed that Stellenbosch has installed some rather... ambitious new speed humps?
Not the gentle little bumps that politely remind you to slow down.
No.
These are proper engineering projects.
The only tiny issue is that some of them haven't been painted yet, so unless you already know where they are, you're essentially playing a real-life game of "Guess What's Coming Next."
This morning I witnessed an innocent tannie in a little hatchback discover one for the very first time.
She was driving along quite happily, completely unaware that the road ahead had quietly transformed into a launch ramp.
The car hit the hump and, for one glorious moment, I'm convinced all four wheels left the ground.

Time slowed down.
Her coffee probably reached the roof.
Her sunglasses nearly entered low Earth orbit.
And the expression on her face... it was a perfect combination of panic, confusion and someone silently asking, "Was that always there?"
I genuinely felt bad for laughing.
But it was also one of the funniest things I've seen all week.
The good news is that the speed humps are doing exactly what they're supposed to do.
The bad news is that half of Stellenbosch is currently discovering them the exciting way.
If you're driving around town this week, perhaps ease off the accelerator just a little.
Your suspension will thank you.
🍗 Nando's Is Finally Coming To Stellenbosch
It's happening.
After years of rumours, wishful thinking and countless "Why doesn't Stellenbosch have a Nando's?" conversations, it looks like the wait is finally over.
Construction is well underway on a brand-new Nando's at the corner of Winery Road and Adam Tas Road, directly opposite the Heineken Beverages Group.
For many locals, this is surprisingly big news.
No more debating whether it's worth driving to Somerset West just to satisfy a sudden craving for PERi-PERi chicken. Soon, that legendary quarter chicken, chips and garlic roll will be just a few minutes away.
The new location is also perfectly positioned for commuters travelling in and out of Stellenbosch, making it an easy stop on the way home after work.
While there's no official opening date just yet, the building is taking shape and it's exciting to finally see something that so many residents have been hoping for become a reality.
Now the only question is...
Medium, Hot or Extra Hot?
💭 A small thought for today
Pay attention to what fills your conversations.
If most of what we talk about is other people, we're quietly training our minds to look for faults instead of possibilities.
The truth is, gossip doesn't just change the way we see the person being discussed. It changes the kind of person we become.
The next time someone begins gossiping, remember that you don't have to interrupt them, lecture them or make things awkward. You can simply choose not to add fuel to the fire. Change the subject. Stay silent. Let the conversation move on.
Imagine if the same amount of energy we spend talking about other people's mistakes was spent talking about ideas, solving problems, encouraging someone, or building something meaningful.
Our words are an investment. Every conversation is depositing something into the people around us, and into ourselves.
So today, ask yourself one simple question:
When I leave a conversation, have I made the world a little heavier... or a little lighter?

🌤️ Friday
17°C / 11°C
A chilly start gives way to sunshine as the clouds clear during the day. A light breeze in the afternoon will remind you it's still very much winter. A great day to get outside.
☀️ Saturday
18°C / 8°C
Probably the pick of the weekend. A cold morning, but plenty of sunshine once the early cloud disappears. Perfect weather for wine farms, markets or a long coffee in the sun.
⛅ Sunday
19°C / 9°C
Another pleasant winter's day with increasing cloud later on, but it should stay dry. Mild temperatures make it an ideal afternoon for a walk through town or a family outing.
Overall: 🌦️ Winter is taking a short break. After this week's rain, we're in for a beautiful, dry weekend with cool mornings and comfortable afternoons. A good excuse to leave the house.
