TOGETHER WITH

🐶 Helping Stellenbosch's Four-Legged Friends

The Animal Welfare Society Stellenbosch is celebrating an incredible 70 years of caring for vulnerable animals with a special fundraising dinner and auction on 24 July at Landtscap in Devonvale.

The evening will raise money to improve the society's dog kennels, providing better protection from the elements and creating a safer, more comfortable environment for the thousands of animals they care for each year.

AWSS is also calling on local wineries to support the event by donating wines, magnums, rare vintages, tasting experiences or other auction prizes to help raise as much as possible.

If you're looking for a worthwhile local cause to support, this is one that's sure to make a real difference, one wagging tail at a time. 🐾

☀️ They're Coming For The Sunshine

For the last few years, South Africans have been told the same thing:

"Install solar."

So people remortgaged their houses, emptied their savings accounts, bought enough batteries to power a small village, and finally escaped load shedding.

Now there's growing debate around municipalities introducing new fees for homes with rooftop solar. The argument is that solar users still rely on the grid and should contribute towards maintaining it.

You have to admire the timing.

It's a bit like bringing your own lunch to work and then getting charged a "kitchen usage fee."

At this rate, we're only a few announcements away from:

💨 Fresh Air Levy
🌧️ Rainwater Collection Permit
🌳 Shade Tax (for trees reducing your aircon bill)

South Africans really can't catch a break. The only thing that's still free... is the complaints in the neighbourhood WhatsApp group.

🥩 Date Night Without Breaking The Bank

If you've been meaning to plan a date night but life keeps getting in the way, here's your reminder.

Every Tuesday evening, The Hussar Grill Stellenbosch offers a Date Night special where couples can enjoy a 2-course meal for R499 or a 3-course meal for R599, including a complimentary bottle of house wine (or two soft drinks).

Expect favourites like their famous steaks, pork belly, mushroom tortellini, and finish things off with a classic malva pudding or their signature Cassata ice cream.

Just don't leave it until the last minute. It's one of Stellenbosch's more popular weekday specials, and tables tend to disappear quickly. ❤️🍷

🎒 The Final Countdown

This is it.

The last full week before schools reopen.

Parents are hanging on by a thread, children have officially run out of things to say they're "bored" about, and supermarkets are quietly preparing for the annual stampede on lunchbox snacks.

Some families are squeezing in one last holiday adventure.

Others are simply trying to remember what day of the week it is.

But enjoy these final few days while they last.

Because next week the school-run traffic returns, alarm clocks become everyone's enemy again, and WhatsApp parent groups will once again remind you about the project that was apparently due tomorrow... and somehow requires three toilet rolls, glitter, an egg box and "natural materials."

💭 A small thought for today

We spend so much of our lives searching for purpose, waiting for that one moment where everything suddenly makes sense.

But what if we've got it backwards?

Purpose doesn't usually arrive first.

Responsibility does.

The moment you take responsibility for something bigger than yourself, your life begins to change. It might be your family. Your business. Your health. Your community. A dream that feels almost impossible. Whatever it is, it gives you a reason to get out of bed on the mornings when you don't feel like it.

The people who seem to have the strongest sense of purpose are rarely the ones with the easiest lives. They're the ones who have accepted responsibility. They know others are counting on them. They know their actions matter. They understand that every decision they make shapes the person they're becoming.

Modern life constantly tells us to chase comfort, happiness and freedom.

Yet comfort without responsibility often leads to boredom. Freedom without purpose can leave us feeling empty.

Real fulfilment comes from carrying a load worth carrying.

So if life feels directionless right now, don't wait for purpose to magically appear.

Take responsibility.

Volunteer. Start the business. Be a better parent. Learn the skill. Help someone. Keep the promises you make to yourself.

Purpose has a remarkable way of meeting people who are already moving.

Sometimes the meaning of life isn't something you find.

It's something you build, one responsibility at a time.
