Another luxury estate is causing a stir in Stellenbosch.

Residents are opposing the proposed development, arguing it could increase traffic, place more pressure on infrastructure, and change the character of the surrounding area. Supporters, on the other hand, say Stellenbosch needs more housing and that well-planned developments help accommodate the town's continued growth.

It's a debate that feels like it comes up every few months in Stellenbosch. Everyone wants the town to stay beautiful... but everyone also wants somewhere for people to live. Finding the balance is easier said than done.

One thing everyone can probably agree on? If another 200 cars end up using Helshoogte Road every morning, we'll all have enough time in traffic to finish an entire podcast before reaching town. 🚗😅

A huge congratulations to Stellenbosch University master's student Tshiamo Medupe, who has been selected as one of only 22 young researchers in the world to take part in the prestigious 2026 Summer Research Programme at Switzerland's world-renowned École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).

Working alongside researchers from leading institutions, including the University of Oxford, Tshiamo is helping develop technology that could improve treatment for people living with Parkinson's disease through advanced brain stimulation research. Not bad for someone who started their academic journey in Mahikeng before making their way to Stellenbosch.

It's always encouraging to see local talent making an impact on the global stage. We often think of Stellenbosch for its wine, mountains and oak trees... but it's also quietly producing scientists, researchers and innovators whose work could improve lives around the world.

We're proud to call Tshiamo one of our own. 👏🎓

It's fascinating how a toddler can sleep through three alarms, endless negotiations, and repeated cries of, "We're going to be late for school!"

But the moment it's Saturday...

They're suddenly awake at 5:32am.

Bright-eyed.

Fully charged.

Standing 4cm from your face whispering, "Are you awake?"

No, little buddy. I wasn't. But I am now.

There's something about becoming a parent that changes your relationship with coffee. Before kids, it was just a drink.

Now it's hope.

It's patience.

It's survival in a mug.

And that first sip on a Saturday morning, while your child is already on their third imaginary adventure before the sun has properly come up... might just be the sweetest sip of the entire week.

A little reminder that this Sunday (9 August) is National Women's Day, which means Monday is a public holiday. 🎉

Women's Day commemorates the incredible courage shown by more than 20,000 women who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria in 1956 to stand against unjust laws. Their bravery became one of the defining moments in South African history and is still remembered 70 years later.

It's also a great excuse to slow things down a little. Whether you're spending the long weekend with family, heading out for breakfast, exploring one of Stellenbosch's wine farms, or simply enjoying a well-earned sleep-in, we hope you have a fantastic weekend.
